From the Wings
During an artist residency in Paris in 2013, Archibald-winning artist Nicholas Harding drew actors as they awaited their stage entrances in a pop-up theatre adjacent to his studio. His friend, Hugo Weaving, saw them and invited Nicholas to draw rehearsals for STC’s production of Waiting for Godot later in the year. Since then, Nicholas has drawn during rehearsals and some performances for 15 productions by various Sydney theatre companies.
From the Wings is a Limited Edition (500 copies), 312-page book containing a selection of drawings from 11 of these productions, in which actors such as John Bell, Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett, Richard Roxburgh and Geraldine Hakewill perform plays by Beckett, Shakespeare, Brecht, Kirkwood, Whittet, Chekov and others. Productions include STC’s Waiting for Godot, Macbeth, Cyrano de Bergerac, Endgame, The Present, Chimerica, The Father and The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui.
